Special Feature - STRYKER UK

Simon Kohn Furniture have recently completed a high profile fit out project at the new Stryker UK headquarters in Newbury. The project involved working closely with ESA Architects and main contractor, VolkerFitzpatrick. The extent of the work encompassed a Staff Food/Beverage Servery, a Bespoke Reception Desk and a specialist Medical Equipment Cabinet.

Stryker HQ

The project was set out to an exacting specification and the detailing was complex and extensive. The use of high specification materials including Corian, Dull Polished Stainless Steel, Backpainted Glass, Polished Plaster & Colourcore laminates added considerably to the finished appearance.

From and initial architectural design we developed the detailing during multiple site meetings. AutoCAD drawings were produced and upon approval the items were ready for manufacture. Full size floor templates were used to set out the items full size on site prior to manufacture. This ensured seamless integration into the space and to ensure that sufficient working space was provided around the various items . Upon approval of the detailing manufacture was carried out at our central Bristol workshops. Site installation was carried out by our specialist team working around the activities of the main contractor. A number of meetings occurred on site to agree final detailing and integration during the installation.

Staff Food/Beverage Servery:
The setting out of this area involved consultation with specialist contractor Swift Catering to ensure correct integration of the catering equipment, hot plates, chilled delicatessen units, extractor hood etc. Also the cabinetry included integrated electrical trunking to allow the services to run full length throughout the servery. Also ensuring correct ventilation and future access was critical.

Reception Desk:
We were asked produce a reception desk within a tight budget giving the appearance of a polished concrete effect in slab form. With the use of Polished Plaster and break joints we were able to achieve this with the final plaster coats applied on site in situ. The back painted glass tops and Colourcore laminate plinths added to the future durability of the desk. Allowance had to be made for electrical services to run throughout the desk and integration of sockets and cable access were critical. Also the use of high gloss laminates to produce shadow gaps and storage cabinets at the rear required a high level of detail.

Specialist Medical Equipment Cabinet:
This cabinet required specific equipment integration, electrical service routes and ventilation within. The need to gain access to the services for future use was also critical. The cabinet used a retracting pocket door system to allow the opened doors to push away into the cabinet during use for ease of access.

The detailing, design and bold use of materials throughout the project has produced a striking building with a stunning interior throughout.
